This innovative Charter School in the Los Angeles School District used their custom Appazur school mobile app to simplify and centralize, rather than using separate apps for hall pass, communications, etc. Many of Appazur’s Hall Pass features were initially designed to meet the challenges faced by this school administration. The North Valley Military Institute College Preparatory Academy (NVMI) was an offshoot of a school founded 23 years ago in Oakland, California. The founder envisioned creating a public school that borrowed discipline and moral development concepts he was familiar with having studied at a Catholic school.
School leadership saw that everyone now had a smartphone and that other schools were getting their own mobile apps. As a school with 1:1 Chromebooks and Google Workspace, and an app seemed like a logical extension. While apps used by other schools in their district included such features as class schedules, bell schedule, calendar, and announcements, it would still be necessary to use other apps as well. Therefore they reached out to Appazur for a customized school app that would include all that and more, including a Hall Pass feature, and forms for tracking student academic and athletic progress, so everything could be centralized into one app and reduce the number of tools that staff, students, and parents had to use.
Once the “NVMI” custom Appazur school mobile app was launched, many found it impactful and useful. Students had four different uniforms which were to be worn on the correct days, so the app’s unique Uniform of the Day capability was very helpful.
Because the school shared a campus with another school, audible building-wide bells were a source of confusion. To make matters more challenging, NVMI’s own bell times varied by day. Therefore, students and teachers found it very helpful to use the Appazur app’s Schedule of the Day feature.
The Hall Pass included powerful administration rules which Appazur extended for the school’s needs, such as preventing certain students from having a hall pass at the same time, or clearing the halls at a certain time, for example if police were needing to attend to remove a student.
