For high schools or middle schools with a BYOD policy, a 1:1 tablet program, or for any school where students are allowed to use their smartphones, Hall Pass by Appazur is a streamlined solution that’s easy for teachers, eliminates paper notes, and includes powerful administration rules and reporting.
Hall Pass by Appazur is available as a standalone app for iOS and Android, as a web application for ChromeOS, or as a feature included in a branded and customized school app.
Using the App
Issuing Hall Passes
To maximize efficiency for the teacher, the Hall Pass is designed to be set up by the student. (Hall Passes can also be issued in advance via the Dashboard - see below.) The student simply opens the app, taps the Hall Pass icon , and then chooses their destination and the length of time required. He or she then hands the device to the teacher for authorization.
The teacher enters her or his unique Hall Pass Key, either manually, or by scanning the QR Code as discussed below. Then tap Issue Hall Pass. Both the student and the teacher will receive a push notification when the hall pass expires.
Authorization Key / QR Code
There are several ways to make the authorization keys available to teachers:
- Tap the QR Code icon on the Hall Pass screen of the app.
- Go to the App Dashboard and click My Staff Account. You’ll find the Hall Pass Key next to Email Address.
- Contact Support for more options.
To make the process even more efficient for teachers who do not always have a mobile device at hand, we suggest printing your Hall Pass Key QR Code on a sheet of paper. In the Dashboard, find your Hall Pass Key as described above, and click on it. This will bring up a printable QR Code.
In the student’s app, rather than typing in your Hall Pass Key, tap Scan and point the device camera at your QR Code. The app will detect the QR Code automatically and return to the Hall Pass screen with the Hall Pass Key field filled in. Tap Issue Hall Pass and return the device to the student.
Checking Hall Passes
Students can easily show their Hall Pass as required. They can keep the app open when they are in the hall and show the Hall Pass on demand, with the time remaining shown.
If the student does not keep the app open, they can simply tap the app icon, and a few seconds later a prompt will appear offering to show the current Hall Pass, if it is still valid. In this case, internet access is required.
Administration
Dashboard Access
Your school or school district will have its own App Dashboard for managing Hall Passes. (If you have a school app or digital signage, it’s the same Dashboard.) The App Dashboard is a mobile-friendly web application that is also available from within your school/district mobile app, if applicable.
You can manually add staff to grant access, or staff accounts can be synced with with your Student Information System (SIS).
Issue Hall Pass in Advance
A staff member can create a hall pass in the Dashboard, scheduled in advance. At the scheduled time, both the student and the teacher will receive a push notification.
More details are available in the Dashboard Guide.
Reporting
You can generate a report for a specific date, student, teacher, destination, or any combination of those. You can print reports, or export to an Excel or CSV file.
More details are available in the Dashboard Guide.
Advanced Reports
Advanced reports allow you to summarize and analyze data. For example, the Count by Student report highlights the students who have used the greatest number of hall passes.
Although the reports are available in the Hall Pass Dashboard and a Google account is not required, your staff with spreadsheet expertise can extend the capabilities of Advanced Reports to meet your unique needs, using Google Sheets, Pivot Tables and Charts. There is no limit to the available reports!
Hall Monitor
Your staff can quickly look up a student’s hall pass record and see if they have a currently-issued pass.
More details are available in the Dashboard Guide.
Admin Rules
With Hall Pass Administration Rules, you can set up an unlimited number of flexible rules to limit and manage the issuance of hall passes.
