Digital Signage Animation and Powerpoint

Overview

Appazur Digital Signage supports animation in the same way as video is supported. Simply convert your animation to a video file and then proceed as with video. Microsoft PowerPoint is a popular way to create suitable animated content. Continue reading below for detailed instructions using PowerPoint.

Prerequisities

At the time of this writing, PowerPoint for Mac does not seem to work as well for this.

It is best if you create a PowerPoint presentation with the standard 16:9 aspect ratio.

Export animated PowerPoint slide(s) to a video file

  1. Open your animated PowerPoint slides in PowerPoint for Windows.
  2. Save your presentation as a video. The available menu choice may be "Create a Video" or "Export to Video" depending on your version of PowerPoint. Choose a higher quality or presentation quality export (1920 x 1080 resolution is ideal).
  3. Older versions of PowerPoint for Windows will save your video as a Windows Media Video file with a ".wmv" extension. Newer versions may let you choose the format, in which case you can choose either ".wmv" or "MPEG-4 Video (.mp4)" from the drop-down list.
  4. You may wish to find and open that file to preview your animation as a video.

Upload video to YouTube

To display animation or video, media should be hosted on a media server such as YouTube. Assuming you are comfortable with YouTube's terms of service, you can follow this procedure to show your PowerPoint animations.

  1. You'll need a YouTube account, which is easy and free to set up. In fact you may have an existing Google account (for mail or other services) which will allow you to log in to YouTube as well.
  2. After you log in to YouTube, click on the Upload button, and choose the video file that you saved from PowerPoint. YouTube may take a few seconds or minutes to process the file, and then will provide you with a URL (web address like https://www.youtube.com/embed/ABC123) for your video. You may wish to choose the "Unlisted" option so that this video is not easily found by others.
  3. You may wish to click on the link to preview your video.

Use Appazur dashboard to create a Digital Signage slide

  1. Finally, log in to your Appazur dashboard and create a slide.
  2. Click on the "External URL" button and copy your entire video URL into the "External URL" box.
  3. You may wish to edit the "Duration" to match the length of your animation, in seconds.
  4. Press "Save".
  5. Now watch a display and review your results.
