App Usage Report

Just as with a website, it’s a good idea to monitor a mobile app to understand how it is working for your community, and where you might want to make adjustments for next year. Here’s an example from a high school with a very heavily-used app:

iOS/Android Open Events

An “Open Event” is when someone opens your app, typically by tapping the launcher icon or on a notification. In the example above, app users opened the app 5,984 times on January 19, most likely because they were checking for updates regarding a potential snow day.

Note that when users simply read a notification but do not tap on it, that activity is not counted here.

iOS/Android Installs - Active

This chart shows a graph of active iOS/Android devices over time, so you can see how many people have installed the app. A device is considered active if the app has been used in the last 90 days. (30 day and 12 month views are available under Optional Metrics.) Data is not available before November 1, 2023.

Messages

This chart shows the number of messages sent per month. A message is counted as “1” regardless of whether it is a message to everyone, a school, class, or group, or to an individual. This therefore gives an indication of how many unique messages are being sent, regardless of the number of recipients. The total is broken down by the source of the message:

In the above example chart, you can see that while the app is connected to website posts, most messages originate from the Appazur Dashboard. The Chat feature is not enabled in this app so there are no Chat messages. The monthly message volume is not particularly high, but the app is heavily used perhaps thanks to other content such as Personalized Class Schedules.

Notifications

This shows how widely your messages were distributed each month, as every push notification, email, SMS text message, and phone call to a particular recipient is counted. For example, if a parent has 2 devices, they would receive 2 notifications for a message. The total is broken down by the medium used:

District Report

If your district has separate Appazur apps for each school, district administrators can access an aggregate report, including all the apps, from your District Dashboard. Instead of navigating to each school dashboard, a search feature allows filtering the district report by school. Here is an example of a chart showing the top 20 apps in a district (click ► to see the rest of the legend):
